Topic: Truancy and DL Suspension

Does your jurisdiction suspend/cancel the driver’s license of high school students who are deemed chronic or habitual truants?

Of the 41 jurisdictions that responded:

Yes – 14

No – 27

Does your jurisdiction suspend/cancel the driver’s license of high school students who drop out of high school?

Of the 41 jurisdictions that responded:

Yes – 9

No – 32

Topic: Parental Notification – Drivers Under 18

Does your jurisdiction notify parents/guardians when a driver under the age of 18 receives a violation?

Of the 50 jurisdictions that responded:

Yes – 10

No – 40

Topic: Learner’s Permit from Another State

Does your jurisdiction have driver’s license reciprocity legislation that allows for the credit from another jurisdiction toward the amount of time required to hold a provisional license or learner’s permit?

Topic: Driving Restrictions for Novice/Teen Drivers

Does your state place restrictions on newly licensed teens that disallow them from either of the following? 

  • Driving during nighttime hours: 31 out of 39 respondents said yes
  • Transporting passengers: 32 out of 39 respondents said yes
